Baby Changing

Baby changing facilities are available at both surgeries and are located in the patient W.C.

Death - What do I do if someone dies?

If someone dies, call a doctor. There is no need to move the patient. It is a legal requirement for a doctor to confirm that someone has died. If the doctor has recently seen the patient, a death certificate can normally be issued. The death will need to be registered at the registry office covering your area. In the case of an unexpected death the doctor will need to notify the coroner who will then advise as to further arrangements. In the event of a bereavement the doctors and health visitors are anxious to offer any support you need. In addition the surgery has contact numbers of local bereavement groups and helpful leaflets which cover the details in full.

Disabled Patients

Merley Surgery

Fees - When do I have to pay a fee?

The partners offer a range of non-NHS services and the current recommended fee is charged. These incluse medicals/certificates for driving, insurance, travel etc., private certificates and medical reports. In order to avoid any embarrassment please ensure that you ask the reception staff about the fee prior to requesting any private service.

Foreign Visitors

Foreign visitors, with the exception of those who require emergency treatment or hold an E112 or E128, will be treated as private patients. Please enquire about the current fee scale for this. Payment will be due at the time of service.

Zero Tolerance Policy

Patients are advised that the practice operates a zero tolerance policy with regard to violence and abuse. Should patients become violent or intolerably abusive  to any member of staff or member of the public on practice premises, staff are instructed to ask the Police to attend. After removal from the premises, patients will be automatically removed from the practice patient list and will need to register elsewhere for their medical needs. Alternatively they should apply to Poole Primary Care Trust, Westover House, West Quay Road, Poole, Dorset BH15 1JF (Tel: 01202 688880) for allocation to another practice.

Telephone Triage

If your request for an appointment is "for today" a doctor may telephone you to discuss your requirements so that you are dealt with in the most apprpriate manner. This will involve the GP phoning you back within a relatively short time to discuss your needs.
