Practice Manager

Our Practice Manager is based at Wallace House, Broadstone and is responsible for practice administration and the efficient and smooth running of both surgeries.

Who else makes up the Practice Team and what do they do?

The practice nurses, district nurses and health visitors aim to provide an integrated seamless nursing service serving the health needs of the practice. They are co-ordinated by the nurse management team. There will be considerable overlap of the roles / tasks performed by the members of each nursing discipline.

Practice Nurses

The practice nurses are primarily responsible for:
Pre-conceptual counselling, baby immunisations, travel immunisation, advice, cervical smears, wound dressing, removal of sutures, routine injections, blood tests, hearing tests, advice on childhood rashes and infection, general treatment of minor injuries, ECG test, flu vaccination (Oct/Nov), ear syringing, blood pressure checks, weight monitoring, smoking cessation advice and alcohol consumption.

Poole Primary Care Trust also employs district nurses and health visitors etc who work from within our surgeries.

District Nurses

The district nurses provide home nursing care for housebound patients such as the elderly, chronically ill or patients recovering from a recent operation.

Attached Health Visitors

There are health visitors based at both Broadstone and Merley surgeries. The health visitors can offer advice on health care for all age groups, but in particular expectant mothers, small children, the elderly and the handicapped. The health visitors may be contacted on WEEKDAYS by telephoning

Community Midwife

The community midwife offers pre-conceptual counselling and antenatal classes alternating with the doctors. The midwife also runs parentcraft and relaxation classes and provides postnatal care at home.
